Dave Ramsey Regrets Nothing About Calling Bitcoin Buyers “Stupid” in 2014, Still Thinks Being Rich Is Morally Suspicious

Says early crypto millionaires “got lucky” and insists true financial peace comes from budgeting beans, not buying digital coins or coffee.

What You Need to Know

• In 2014, Dave Ramsey called Bitcoin investors “stupid” when the price was around $550

• Bitcoin later soared past $60,000, but Ramsey says that doesn’t make it smart

• He still encourages financial peace through zero-risk strategies, sharpie labels, and strong opinions

Ramsey Still Trusts Envelopes Over Exchanges

NASHVILLE, TN — Financial personality Dave Ramsey is not backing down from his 2014 claim that Bitcoin investors were “stupid” and headed for disaster. He made the statement when Bitcoin was trading at $550. Since then, it has climbed to tens of thousands. Still, Ramsey remains convinced he was right.

“This isn’t about price,” he said. “It’s about principles, and those don’t fluctuate with the market.”

A Fixed-Rate Mindset in a Blockchain World

Ramsey doubled down during a recent podcast, stating that financial success should come from hard work and not “weird internet coins with logos made by cartoon dogs.” He urged listeners to stick to what they can touch — houses, cars, emergency fund jars — and anything that fits neatly in an envelope.

He added that real wealth doesn’t come from betting, but from budgeting.

Crypto Is for Gamblers, Not Gazelle-Intense Budgeters

While some former listeners bought Bitcoin early and cashed out to pay off their homes, Ramsey claims they got lucky. He argued that good financial habits are about discipline, not digital wallets.

“Fast money teaches nothing,” he said. “Slow, predictable money teaches character. Especially when it comes with a printable worksheet.”

Regret-Free and Risk-Averse

Despite missing out on what may have been the best-performing asset of the decade, Ramsey stands firm. He still teaches zero-based budgeting, baby steps, and “a healthy fear of anything that doesn’t involve a checkbook.”

At press time, Ramsey was designing a new course called Crypto-Free Wealth Building: Because Math Shouldn’t Require Wi-Fi.
