Chicagoans allowed to call “dibs” two weeks prior to NASCAR race through city

Chicago, IL – Residents of Chicago will soon be able to call dibs on their preferred viewing spots for the upcoming NASCAR race that will be held in the city in early July. According to city officials, residents will be able to stake their claim to prime viewing areas up to two weeks prior to the event.

Dibs is a controversial tradition in which residents leave objects like tables, chairs, and traffic cones in parking spaces they have shoveled out after a snowstorm.

The designated “dibs” zone for the NASCAR race will be between turns 5 and 6 on S. Columbus Drive. Residents are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, tables, and grills to mark their territory in the zone.

“We understand that NASCAR is a big event for our city, and we want to make sure that our residents have the best possible viewing experience,” said a city spokesperson. “By allowing people to call dibs on their preferred spots, we’re giving them a chance to enjoy the race in true Chicago comfort and style.”

Some residents have already started preparing for the event, with reports of lawn chairs and tables appearing on the streets around the designated zone. Others, however, are concerned about the impact that the “dibs” tradition may have on the race.

“This is ridiculous,” said one resident. “The streets are going to be packed enough as it is, without people staking out their spots weeks in advance. It’s going to be chaos.”

Despite the concerns, city officials are confident that the “dibs” system will work smoothly and that everyone will have a chance to enjoy the race.

“We’re asking people to be considerate of their neighbors and to share the space,” said the spokesperson. “We believe that with a little cooperation, everyone will be able to enjoy the race without any problems.”
