In a desperate bid to save their reputation, the Gas American Stove (GAS) lobbying group has made an unusual plea to politicians. In a statement released earlier today, GAS begged lawmakers to apply the same strict standards on other appliances and not to single out just gas stoves.
“We’re tired of being the villain,” said GAS spokesperson, Hank Burner. “Why should we be singled out when there are so many other appliances that are just as harmful to the environment?”
Burner went on to suggest that dishwashers, washing machines, and even coffee makers should be subject to the same regulations as gas stoves. “If we’re going to save the planet, we need to be consistent. We can’t just target one appliance and ignore the rest.”
GAS’s proposal was met with widespread ridicule from environmental groups, who pointed out that gas stoves are one of the biggest contributors to indoor air pollution.
“Sorry GAS, but you can’t just gaslight us like that,” said eco-activist, Greta Green. “We need to focus on the appliances that are causing the most harm, and unfortunately for you, that’s gas stoves.”
Despite the backlash, GAS remains hopeful that their plea will be heard. “We’re not giving up,” said Burner. “We’ll keep fighting until every appliance is held to the same standard. Even if it means putting a cap on how many cups of coffee you can make in a day.”
