Dylan Mulvaney, the rising American social media influencer, has recently caused controversy with her partnership with New York-based cosmetics company, Maybelline. The 26-year-old star has previously come under fire for her collaborations with other big brands, including Bud Light, Kate Spade, and Nike, with critics accusing them of taking “inclusivity” to another level.

Mulvaney’s recent promotional video for Maybelline resurfaced online, sparking a furious backlash from Twitter users. English internet personality Oli London shared an old video of Mulvaney, showing her applying Maybelline products for a before-and-after transformation, with a sarcastic comment: “Maybe he’s born with it, maybe it’s Maybelline. The new face of Maybelline, ladies!”

As the video went viral, many took to social media to call out Maybelline for partnering with Mulvaney, with some users vowing to Boycott the brand. Canadian psychologist Jordan B Peterson also criticized Maybelline’s collaboration with Mulvaney and pointed out that other big names had been boycotted because of their association with her.

Despite the controversy, Mulvaney has amassed a huge following on social media and become one of the most influential celebrities online, with a net worth of $1.5 million, which continues to grow. She rose to prominence by sharing her gender transition journey on TikTok through a video series called “Days of Girlhood.”

In an interview with the New York Observer, Mulvaney explained that she turned to TikTok during the pandemic after losing her job as a performer on Broadway. Her first video, which documented her transition, went viral and propelled her to social media stardom.

While some have criticized Mulvaney’s collaborations with big brands and accused her of promoting consumerism, others have praised her for using her platform to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ issues and promote inclusivity. Regardless of the controversy surrounding her, there’s no doubt that Mulvaney has made a significant impact on social media and continues to be a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.
