In a bizarre twist of generational labeling, “True Boomers,” those who are parents to both Millennials and Generation Xers, are now finding themselves bewildered by the latest labeling trend among Generation Z, the kids of Millennials and Gen Xers.
According to a recent survey conducted by the Association of True Boomers (ATB), many members of this cohort are perplexed by the fact that their children’s children are referring to their own children as “Boomers.”
“It’s like we’re stuck in a perpetual episode of Abbott and Costello,” lamented one True Boomer. “Who’s on first? What’s the difference between a Millennial and a Boomer? I have no idea!”
Experts suggest that the confusion may stem from a lack of understanding of the nuances of generational labeling, as well as the rapid changes in technology and social norms that have characterized the last few decades. “It’s a classic case of generational displacement,” said one expert. “The younger generation is using the terms of their parents and grandparents to label their own peers.”
Some True Boomers expressed frustration that their hard-fought generational identity was being muddled by this new labeling trend. “We had our own struggles and achievements,” said one True Boomer. “We’re not just a generic label that can be applied to anyone!”
Meanwhile, members of Generation Z seemed to find the confusion amusing. “It’s hilarious to watch the Boomers struggle with this,” said one Gen Zer. “They think they’re so special, but really they’re just like everyone else.”
Despite the confusion, some True Boomers have decided to embrace the new labeling trend. “Hey, as long as we’re still here and kicking, we’ll take whatever label they want to give us,” said one True Boomer. “It’s better than being ignored altogether!”
