According to eyewitnesses, the 45-foot animatronic dragon, which is styled after the villain Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, began to emit smoke and flames from its head before the entire creature was engulfed in flames. Cast members quickly evacuated the area, and no injuries were reported.
However, some guests at the park have started to speculate that the incident was not an accident, but rather a deliberate act of sabotage by Governor DeSantis, who has been in a feud with Disney over his proposed bill to give him control over the theme park’s special Florida district.
In Florida, Walt Disney World operates within a special tax district that provides the theme park with a number of advantages, including a special governing board that oversees certain aspects of the park’s operations.
