Washington D.C. – In a surprising move, Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) has introduced a new bill that would make the AR-15 style rifle the “National Gun of the United States.” But that’s not all – the bill, known as H.R.1095, also includes a provision that would make bulletproof backpacks mandatory for all school children.
Boebert, a staunch gun rights advocate, explained her reasoning for the bill in a press conference on Capitol Hill. “The AR-15 is a symbol of American freedom, and it’s time we recognize it as such,” she said. “And as for the bulletproof backpacks, well, we need to make sure our children are safe when they go to school. It’s just common sense.”
Critics of the bill have called it misguided and dangerous. “This is just another attempt by Boebert to push her extreme pro-gun agenda,” said Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). “Making the AR-15 the National Gun sends a message that we value guns over human lives. And forcing children to carry bulletproof backpacks is not a solution to gun violence – it’s a sad commentary on our failure to address the root causes of the problem.”
Boebert brushed off the criticism, insisting that the bill is necessary to protect Americans’ Second Amendment rights. “The Constitution says we have the right to bear arms, and that includes the right to own an AR-15,” she said. “And as for the backpacks, they’re just an added layer of protection. It’s not like we’re asking kids to wear body armor or anything.”
The bill is expected to face an uphill battle in Congress, with many lawmakers expressing doubts about its practicality and effectiveness. But Boebert remains undeterred. “I’m fighting for the American people, and I won’t back down,” she said. “The AR-15 is the greatest gun ever made, and it deserves to be recognized as the National Gun. And as for the backpacks, well, I challenge anyone to tell me they don’t want their child to be safe.”
