Former news anchor and losing Republican candidate for Arizona governor, Kari Lake, was caught by the police for driving on a highway without wearing a seatbelt travelling at a high rate of speed. When asked about her reckless behavior by the officer, Lake reportedly stated that she was simply trying to mimic former President Donald Trump’s recent arrest, and was feeling left out of the media attention he was receiving.
Sources close to Lake say that she has been feeling increasingly envious of Trump’s recent legal troubles, and has been desperate for a similar level of attention from the media. In a recent statement, Lake expressed her admiration for Trump’s “daring and courageous” behavior, and lamented that she had not yet had the opportunity to “stand up to the deep state” and face her own legal challenges.
Many political observers have expressed concern about Lake’s recent behavior, and have called on her to focus on more substantive issues, such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. However, Lake’s campaign team has remained defiant, stating that their candidate is simply trying to “embrace the Trumpian spirit” and appeal to the Republican base.
In response to the incident, the Arizona Democratic Party issued a statement calling on Lake to “stop endangering the lives of herself and others by driving without a seatbelt,” and to “focus on the real issues facing Arizonans, instead of trying to emulate a disgraced former president.”
As of press time, it is unclear whether Lake will face any legal repercussions for her reckless driving, or whether she will continue to pursue attention through increasingly dangerous stunts. One thing is for certain, however: in the age of Trump, it seems that anything is possible in the world of politics.
