Tamales are fighting back against the culinary tyranny of Taco Tuesday. With their delicious fillings wrapped in a warm corn husk, tamales have long been a favorite among Latin American communities. Yet, despite their popularity, they’ve been overlooked in the weekly celebration of Mexican cuisine that is Taco Tuesday.
It’s time for tamales to take a stand, and they’re not alone. The Tamale Alliance of America (TAA) is leading the charge, determined to make #TamaleTuesday a thing. “We’re tired of being the forgotten cousin of the taco,” said a spokesperson for the TAA. “Tamales are just as versatile and delicious, and we deserve our own day of the week to shine.”
Tacos have held a monopoly on Tuesdays for too long, and it’s time for them to face some stiff competition. But the Taco Association of America (TAA) isn’t backing down without a fight. “Taco Tuesday is an institution,” said a representative for the TAA. “We’re not going to let tamales steal the spotlight without a fight.”
To counter the tamales’ push for their own day, the TAA has proposed a new hashtag: #TacoTamalesday. This compromise, they argue, will honor both tacos and tamales equally, allowing everyone to enjoy the best of both worlds. “Why choose between tacos and tamales when you can have both?” the representative asked. “With TacoTamalesday, everyone wins.”
But the TAA’s offer isn’t good enough for the TAA. They’re standing their ground, demanding that tamales get their own day. And why shouldn’t they? Tamales have been around for thousands of years, long before tacos were even a thing. It’s about time they got the respect they deserve.
The battle rages on, and both sides are digging in their heels. But let’s not forget that Thursdays start with the letter T as well. Perhaps it’s time for us to expand our horizons and celebrate all T-related foods on Thursdays. Tortas, tostadas, and tamales, oh my! Why limit ourselves to just one day of the week to enjoy these culinary delights?
