Elon Musk has announced that he will be stepping down from his position and handing over the reins to Linda Yaccarino, a prominent female executive in the media industry. While many hailed this move as a step towards diversity and inclusion in the tech sector, some right-leaning Twitter users were not happy with the decision.
“Another victim of cancel culture,” tweeted one user with a Pepe the Frog avatar. “Elon Musk caving to the woke mob by handing over his company to a woman. What’s next, a transgender CEO? #Sad.”
Others were more overtly sexist in their criticism of Yaccarino’s appointment. “A woman CEO? How is she going to handle the pressure of running a company when she should be at home cooking and cleaning?” wrote another user with a MAGA hat emoji in their profile picture.
Despite the backlash, Yaccarino remained optimistic about her new role. “I’m excited to join the Twitter team and work towards a sustainable future,” she said in a statement. “I hope to prove that women are just as capable of leading companies as men.”
Meanwhile, Musk has denied any claims that his decision to step down was influenced by pressure from the “woke mob” or any other outside forces. “I simply felt that it was time for a change,” he said in a tweet. “Linda Yaccarino is a brilliant executive and I have no doubt she will do great things for Twitter.”
As for the Twitter users who were upset by the news, Musk had a message for them as well. “If you can’t handle a woman CEO, then you probably shouldn’t be investing in a company that’s all about innovation and progress,” he wrote in a follow-up tweet. “Times are changing, and Twitter is leading the way.”
